The John Vietnam Nguyen Educational Fund was established in honor of John Vietnam, a young rapper and activist from Uptown Chicago. Though he died way too young, while still a student attending the University of Madison-Wisconsin, he accomplished so much with a positive attitude that inspired and encouraged youth and adults alike.
John was passionate about encouraging his family, friends and fans. With a worldview wise beyond his years, John was a mentor and role model for many youth, an advocate for peace and justice, and a philanthropist donating the proceeds of his CDs to help vulnerable children in Vietnam.
John is still inspiring and encouraging people of all ages. Through this fund, his legacy continues by helping poor children and youth from poor households stay in school, look toward the future, and pave a path out of poverty.
The John Vietnam Nguyen Educational Fund is focused exclusively on giving children and youth a bright future through education including scholarships to poor children affording them school supplies, bikes, desks, study lamps and university scholarships for young people who want to attend university but have no funds to achieve their dreams.
My Little Soldier…A poignant memorial written by John’s father, a Vietnam Vet, to John who spread the message of peace, tolerance and hope and who died saving another. We knew this young man too and continue to feel a sharp pain in his passing. These words, written for Memorial Day 2016, are shared in John’s honor and in honor of his father.
