Good nutrition is crucial to a child’s development. Unfortunately, in Vietnam 25.2% of children under the age of five are malnourished. Well-nourished children perform better in school and grow into healthy adults, while children who are undernourished in the early years of life often face stunted physical and mental development that affects them for the rest of their lives. Malnutrition also weakens the body’s resistance to illness and infection, and greatly increases risks during childbirth.
Children of Vietnam combats malnourishment and gives children a healthy start in life through our Nutrition Initiative, which includes the following programs:
Children’s Treats brings a little bit of fun to disadvantaged children with occasional special outings and holiday gifts such as small toys, candy, rice, and cooking oil.
Farming for Self-Sufficiency distributes healthy livestock to families to provide a sustainable source of food and income.
Health-E (Helping, Encouraging, Affecting Life Through Hunger Elimination) distributes nourishing food, milk, and vitamins to street children homes, orphanages, schools, elder care homes, and families in crisis.
