Many Vietnamese children suffer from disabilities and life-threatening illnesses because their families lack money for medical care or access to modern medical facilities. In many cases, a simple surgery can save a child’s life or mean the difference between complete social rejection and a chance to be accepted. A wheelchair or prosthetic can give the gift of mobility and self-determination to a child who previously spent his or her days stuck inside alone. Whatever the ailment, good medical care drastically improves the quality of life for disabled and ill children.
Through our Medical Initiative, Children of Vietnam makes modern medical care a reality for the children who need it most. The Medical Initiative consists of the following programs:
Children’s Treatments and Family Support provides children with needed surgeries, medicine, medical aids and support for their families while the children are hospitalized. Special effort in this area includes supporting children with facial disfigurations who need critical operations.
Mending Hearts provides critically ill children with life-saving surgery and assistance.
Medical Collaborations coordinates with institutions around the world to bring training, supplies, and equipment to Vietnam to benefit innumerable children for years to come.
Parasite Reduction provides preventive treatments to schoolchildren.
